Biography:
Dr. Mikhail (Misha) Polyanskiy earned his MS in Physics from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, in 2000, and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2004. He briefly transitioned to industry, working as a Senior Engineer at Samsung, South Korea, where he developed laser-based equipment for TV panel fabrication. In 2007, Dr. Polyanskiy joined the Accelerator Test Facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA.

His research focuses on developing high-peak-power, long-wave infrared lasers using carbon dioxide amplifiers. Among his key achievements are the first implementation of a high-pressure, isotopically-enriched CO2 active medium for picosecond pulse amplification, the deployment of the first gas laser with a chirped-pulse amplification scheme, and the creation of a novel bulk-material pulse post-compression concept.

Since 2008, Dr. Polyanskiy has also maintained Refractiveindex.info, a widely recognized database of optical constants, which organizes data from hundreds of publications and technical documents. Today, this resource serves as a de facto standard reference for scientists, engineers, and students in the fields of optics, lasers, photonics, materials science, and beyond.

Dr. Polyanskiy has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, filed 3 patent applications, and contributed to numerous conference papers. He is also a member of Optica.
